      Equality Charter School Goes Skiing

PE/Health teacher Mr. Mullen took approximately 30 of our 8th grade scholars on a ski trip on March 9th to Mount Peter located in Warwick, NY. This was the first time most of these scholars went skiing. They had an amazing time on the slopes and expressed interest in skiing again in the future.

We are grateful that Mr. Mullen provided these scholars with this opportunity.

Professional Development Day at Equality Charter School

On Wednesday, March 7th, Equality Charter School held a day of Professional Development for its teachers and faculty members. All staff took part in an English Language Arts data meeting. Staff worked together to analyze student performance data and to agree on common strategies to address scholars’ deficiences and support scholars’ strengths. It was a rewarding day of community building for staff to come together and focus on a common cause – scholar literacy and student achievement.

Equality Charter School Awarded Mighty Milers Music Grant

Equality Charter School has been selected to receive a Mighty Milers Music Grant to keep our students “rocking and running!”  Mighty Milers is a school and community based program that teaches students the healthy habit of running and/or walking for physical fitness and well being and this grant is intended to keep our students motivated by providing a sound system, MP3 player and iTunes gift card.

Ms. Farrison, Equality Charter School’s Athletic Director said, “This program is a great way to promote healthy behavior in school and it gets the scholars active at least twice a week.  The mighy milers program has many rewards and grants which the students love and can benefit from. This grant will not only motivate our scholars to run by listening to music while they run but it will also benefit our entire school. We are so excited to receive this grant!”

What is the Might Milers program?
Every PE class as our active warm-up we do Mighty Milers. For at least 15 minutes a day, Mighty Milers gives kids the opportunity and encouragement to get moving, release energy, improve their fitness and health, set and strive for individual goals, and bond with their schoolmates. The program provides incentives and scholars of all fitness levels and abilities learn to run one to two times a week.

              A Message from Coach Cooper

Equality Charter School 2011 Basketball TeamThe saying goes practice makes perfect and on this day we looked perfect. Equality beat TAPCO – the score was not tallied during the last 4 minutes out of respect to the home team and fans. Our whole team did a great job and almost every single player scored. The team practices twice a week and Coach Laurence and I teach and teach our athletes!! So this is our reward!! Hard work pays off!! Hopefully they will take what they learn about hard work and work to keep their grades up in the classroom. We are now 5-2 and both our losses came when we were missing key players. Also we lost both games by 2 points in which a 1 second delay of the whistle could have been our victory.

We are now waiting to hear from the league when we play and who we play in the playoffs!! Coach Laurence and I want to thank the whole team for taking practice serious!! Shout outs to all teachers, parents, and fans that supported us!! Keep it up!!!

              – Coach Cooper
