Toiletry Drive at Equality

Equality Charter School is currently collecting toiletries for the Cross Over Community Center. Please bring in your items to donate to this local cause! The grade that collects the most toiletries will earn a dress down day!

Marking Period 3 Academic Awards

Scholars, parents, and staff celebrated scholars who received awards for Marking Period 3 on May 4, 2012. The awards were given for Honor Roll (average of 85% of higher), Principal’s List (average of 95% or higher), and Scholar of the Quarter (meeting all behavioral expectations). We thank everybody who came out to celebrate. Once again, we had a great turnout from all!

Congratulations to Jose Negron, Winner of a Scholastic All-Star Student Award!

Last month, Ms. Greco nominated Jose Negron for the Scholastic All-Star Student Award. The Scholastic All-Star Awards recognize the outstanding achievements of students in READ 180 and System 44 classrooms across the country who have overcome reading challenges to succeed in school. Out of 400 national nominations, Jose won the System 44 All-Star Student Award. Jose will be awarded $1200, recognized on the Scholastic website, and will be acknowledged at the 2012 Read 180/System 44 Summer Institute Convention in New Orleans. Ms. Greco will also be awarded $1000 worth of Scholastic teaching materials for all Equality Read 180 and System 44 scholars. We are so proud of Jose!

Equality Charter School Holds Academic Pep Rally

With only one day left until the NYS ELA exam, Equality’s scholars and staff held their first Academic Pep Rally. This event was designed to motivate scholars to work hard and do well on their exams. At Equality, we work for all schoalrs to identify the goals that they want to reach and focus on how they will achieve these goals. All scholars got bracelets stating, “I will achieve my goal on the NYS ELA exam.” We are confident that our scholars preparation for the exam, coupled with their positive attitude regarding testing, will provide positive results.

Equality Charter School Announces Our First Annual Track Meet

Equality Charter School and the Zodiacs Track Foundation are organizing our First Annual Track Meet at Truman High School. We will be inviting many elementary and middle schools from the surrounding area. The date of the event is May 5, 2012. For more information and to download the flyer, click here.

We are in the process of collecting donations to help provide drinks, snacks, and t-shirts to our school participants, we must also pay for officials and a fee to use the track. If you would like to make any donations to our track program please bring cash, send a money order to our school or click here to donate online.

We hope everyone will come out and support our school. We will also have other teams fundraising there as well. If you would like to volunteer your time or have any questions please contact Ms. Farrison at amanda.farrison@equalitycharterschool.org.

Equality scholars complete their NYS English Language Arts Exams

This week, Equality Charter School scholars completed their NYS English Language Arts Exams. The test spanned three days from April 17-19.

Our scholars were well prepared for the exams and were excited to demonstrate all that they had learned!

Boys Basketball End Their Season Strong

On March 31st, Equality Charter School competed in the city-wide junior high school basketball championship at Kipps Infinity. In the first game, Equality beat Endeavor and then went on to play Excelsior in the championship game. Equality gave a great effort and kept the game close through the first and second half. We are so proud of our scholar-athletes for coming in second place in what was a great season.

Equality Charter School Track Team Update

The Eagles competed in the NYRR Jamboree on Saturday, March 24th and performed great. Sixteen Eagles competed and all made it to the podium. Only the top three athletes in their event / heat, stand on the podium and receive awards. Due to their hard work and the coach’s dedication, every athlete was in the top three and made it to the podium. With their performance, Equality Charter School track team can be recognized as one of the top middle school track teams in New York.

The following Eagle’s won awards: Nahuel Mediza, Kody Roach, Ileri Arabambi and Taje Nelson took 3rd in the 7th and 8th grade 4 x 200 meter relay. Briana Callendar, Destiny Ellison, Trinity Ellison and Amber Ayala took 2nd in the 6th grade girls 4 x 200 meter relay. Jarius Waye, Darius Gordon, Aaron Lynch and Kenton Martin took 2nd in the 6th grade boys 4 x 200 meter relay. Ileri Arabambi also took 2nd in the 55 meter dash, Kenton Martin took 1st in the 400 meter race, Taje Nelson, took 1st in the 400 meter race, Jarius Waye took 2nd in his 400 meter race. Diamond Jackson took 1st in the 55 meter race, Marion Osei-Boateng took 1st in the 400 meter dash, Darius Gordon won the 800 meter invitation, Amber Ayala, took 2nd in the 55 meter dash, Jermaine Antonetty won the 8th / 7th grade shot put and Alliyah Ferguson won the long jump.

Equality Charter School Eagles Win Basketball Championship!

The Equality Charter School Eagles won the Region 1 Basketball Boys Championship, defeating the Icahn School on a last second shot, 28-27 at LaGuardia House on Wednesday, March 21st. To see highlights from the game, check out our Youtube channel and for more pictures check out our Facebook page.
